ABOUT US

University of Miami Alternative Breaks (UMAB) is a student-run program that sends UM students across the United States on service-learning trips during fall and spring breaks. Our students engage in a range of social justice issues, including community health, childhood education, homelessness, environmental protection, women's rights, and immigration. Our recent trips sites include San Diego, CA; Sharpsburg, GA; Louisville, KY; New York, NY; Wellington, CO; and South and Central FL.

Our mission is to provide diverse, quality alternative breaks which engage participants in their local and national communities and foster a lifelong commitment to social action and social change.

Our logo reflects the connection of our campus movement to a larger, global community. It represents the idea of active citizenship, one of our core guiding principles, in promoting student engagement in meaningful, direct service.

A web. The overlapping lines hinge upon one another, representing the interconnected nature of experience. The issues we work with and the at-times unexpected experiences in UMAB are no different.
Transparency. There is clarity in the organization. We foster dialogue and open-mindedness across all levels
