Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center
Tavernier, FL
The Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, Inc. is a not for profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native and migratory wild birds that have been harmed or displaced; providing or locating a humane shelter for those birds that cannot be released; and educating the public towards the importance of coexistence with all wild bird species. Participants assisted with cleaning monofilament lines, enclosure construction, scrubbing boardwalks, and maintaining the natural mangrove trail.
Cultivate Abundance addresses food insecurity and other livelihood challenges in low-income, migrant farmworker communities. They promote community gardening in migrant worker communities, engage in community partnerships to promote food surplus sharing, and provide adivsing services to community farmers. Students helped maintain community gardens and worked side-by-side with migrant farmers.
Real Life Children’s Ranch
Okeechobee, FL
Real Life Children’s Ranch is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that serves as a residential children’s home for abused and neglected children aged 5-17 years old. Real Life Children’s Ranch provides a supportive and mentoring environment more individually-focused than traditional foster homes. UMAB participants assisted with landscaping, grounds work, and general maintenance to maintain a safe and welcoming facility for the children.
Blowing Rocks Preserve
Hobe Sound, FL
Blowing Rocks Preserve is an environmental preserve owned by The Nature Conservancy. This barrier island sanctuary houses the largest Anastasia limestone shoreline on the Atlantic coast. They help preserve native coastal habitat restoration. Participants assisted with the final stages of preparation for a restoration site and planting project. Participants also hand-pulled invasive plants and assisted with marine debris collection.
